Students of Spanish or Portuguese can increase their language and cultural proficiency by taking advantage of all the resources available throughout the Department and the city of LA.
If students of Spanish want to improve their writing skills or get help in their writing assignments, they can do so by scheduling a session in the LEO (Laboratorio de Escritura Online). They can also practice their oral skills in the language and get acquainted with other students that have their same interests and love for the Hispanic language and cultures by joining the Spanish Undergraduate Student Association (SUSA) or by taking part in any of the many service opportunities available in Los Angeles and abroad.
The city of Los Angeles, with its unique Hispanic heritage, offers a large variety of cultural events (museums, exhibitions, concerts, film series and festivals) where students can have a first-hand experience of the richness and variety of the Hispanic culture.
The Boeckmann Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies is an important liaison between the Department and the University Libraries, while the USC-Huntington Early Modern Studies Institute sponsors lectures and conferences that often focus on the Spanish Atlantic World.
