Mission: To connect students and local residents through the cultural and linguistic richness of Spanish

The overarching goal of this program is to connect learners of Spanish and Spanish heritage speakers with local K-12 students and their parents. Through this connection, we hope to foster deeper ties to the Spanish language and to Spanish-speaking cultures while promoting the benefits of multilingualism. Moreover, we hope to affirm the value of multilingual and multicultural identities in higher education and the greater community.

As representatives of the LAIC Language Ambassadors program USC students will visit local schools to discuss their experiences learning and speaking Spanish. Through this program participants will develop their leadership and public speaking skills in both English and Spanish while forming a more profound connection to our local communities.

  • To share their enthusiasm for Spanish with their peers, and spark interest for Spanish education in the community.
  • To visit K-12 campuses in the Los Angeles area to share personal experiences, study abroad programs, language skills, and local knowledge (language, community-based resources, etc.).
  •  To pass on institutional knowledge about Spanish programs to new students.
  • To discuss issues related to Spanish language learning for all learners including Heritage speakers of Spanish.
  • To share ways in which Spanish language skills prove useful in daily life, in the academic setting, and on the job market.
  • To develop social media content.
  • To act as a contact point for alumni and current students.
  •  To develop their language competencies through real-world interactions.

Connecting with High School Students

The entire presentation of our guest speakers was excellent. They talk about their college experience at USC and their class experience. They also talked to us about college tuition and scholarships. Which to me as a low income student who wants to go to USC information like the one they gave us really helps me out. The students were nice and polite and they were giving us advice for college as well. The teacher was also nice and polite as well. They were telling us other ways to get into colleges like going through community college then transferring to a better college. After this experience I would recommend this to every other high school to support their students and to help them out for college
