Biography

Raquel Guzman Delerme is a PhD candidate in the sociology department at the University of Southern California. She uses qualitative methods to study carcerality and social control with an eye towards race and gender. Her second year empirical project explored the extracted labor and resources of mothers with incarcerated adult children and her dissertation research will examine geneologies of surveillance technologies in Los Angeles. Raquel works as a research assistant at the Captive Money Lab and the Everyday Respect Project and enjoys teaching students at varying levels including high schoolers and incarcerated learners.

Prior to her doctoral studies, she worked as Policy and Research Associate and Senior Program Manager at the Center for Justice Innovation. Here she worked on issues related to jail reduction, monetary sanctions, and bail reform. She received her MSW from Fordham University and her BA from the University of Connecticut, Storrs.
