Marion Noble

Marion Noble is a first-year Sociology PhD student at the University of Southern California. She is interested in race, social stratification, and how anti-Blackness shapes culture. Her research examines Black educational experiences, and racial inequities in philanthropic giving.

Marion received her BA in Sociology with a Minor in African American Studies from the University of California, Berkeley – earning High Honors in Sociology and High Distinction in General Scholarship. Prior to enrolling as a doctoral student at USC, she participated in UC Berkeley’s year-long Sociology Senior Honors Thesis Program. Her thesis entitled “Illusion of Inclusion: Examining UC Berkeley’s Diversity Initiatives and the Black Student Experience” documented how Black Berkeley students experience anti-Blackness on campus, and perceive the university’s unique racial climate. 

As a lifelong Angeleno, Marion is passionate about supporting Los Angeles communities through research, youth advocacy, and local grantmaking.
