Biography

Adrelys is a first-year Doctoral Student at the University of Southern California’s Clinical Science program, working under the mentorship of Dr. Chardée Galán. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst, where she studied Psychology and Spanish. After graduating with her Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology, Adrelys spent two years working as the Laboratory Coordinator of the Self-regulation, Emotions, and Early Development (SEED) Lab, under the mentorship of Dr. Adam Grabell. In this role, Adrelys managed two large NIMH and NSF studies assessing the cross-diagnostic symptoms of early childhood psychopathology in preschool-aged children.

  • Summary Statement of Research Interests

    Adrelys’ research interests broadly focus on understanding the developmental consequences of early adversity in minoritized youth and families. She is particularly interested in assessing the impact of community violence exposure and racial discrimination-related chronic stress on Black and Latinx children’s behavior, emotions, and mental health. She also hopes to elucidate personal, community, and contextual protective factors that can help inform more accessible and contextually relevant interventions for traditionally marginalized youth.
