I always knew that I wanted to study in another country for both the experience and immersion, but I did not choose Italy until I started studying the language. Prior to studying abroad, I had taken a year and a half of the Italian language and Italian culture courses, and through this time a natural curiosity for the country was formed.
With regard to my major, I felt that with my degree and international politics interests led me to this invaluable experience, especially due to the importance of the Italian government in the European Union. I chose Florence due to its position in Italy, as it wasn’t in the north or the south of the country, like how Milan or Rome would be

Simply, live in the moment. Don’t try to over plan your study abroad, because sometimes the best trips are the sporadic and last minute trips with new friends. Speak to everyone you can, as there are so many great people and stories to immerse yourself into. Even if you don’t speak Italian, try to use the language and develop relationships with the people around you. Lastly, don’t get too caught up in visiting other countries, and try to experience the non-tourist side of Florence. The city only gets more beautiful the more you discover.
