- Wendy Cheng received the Asian American Studies early career award at AAAS. Cheng has accepted a position as Assistant Professor of American Studies at Scripps College.
- Michelle Commander received tenured as Associate Professor of Africana Studies and English at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her book Afro-Atlantic Flight: Speculative Returns and the Black Fantastic (Duke Press), was recently published in March 2017.
- Robert Eap accepted a position as Program Manager, In-Prison Program at Defy Ventures, a non-profit organization in San Francisco
- Laura Fugikawa has accepted a position as Visiting Assistant Professor, Study of Gender and Women at Smith College

- Kai Green accepted a position as Assistant Professor of Feminist Studies at UC Santa Barbara.
- Jesús J. Hernández received a 2016-17 Mellon University Press Diversity Fellowship at MIT Press.

- Mark Padoongpatt, currently an Assistant Professor of History at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, has accepted a fellowship as a Visiting Scholar at the Institute of American Cultures and Asian American Studies Center at UCLA.

- Anthony Bayani Rodriguez accepted a position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at St. Johns University in Queens, New York
- Tasneem Siddiqui accepted a position as Visiting Assistant Professor of Black Studies, Winston-Salem State University at North Carolina.
- Anton Smith accepted a position as Assistant Professor of African American Literature, Humanities Department, Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
- David Stein has accepted a Lecturer position in the Department of African American Studies and the History Department at UCLA.
- Cam Vu has accepted a position as the Director of Development and Strategic Communications at USC’s School of Public Policy.
- Terrion Williamson’s new book “Scandalize My Name: Black Practice and the Making of Black Social Life” is out from Fordham University Press. Williamson has accepted an Assistant Professor position at the University of Minnesota in the Department of African American and African Studies with joint appointments with the Departments of Gender, Women & Sexuality and American Studies.
- Yushi Yamazaki has accepted a position as Research Associate of the Center for Global Communication Strategies at Tokyo University, 2016-18.
- Daniel HoSang was named Department Head in the Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of Oregon in July 2016.
