Becky Lang on studying abroad at the Chinese University of Hong Kong
“While at CUHK I took two classes related to my major, Abnormal Psychology and Problem Solving and Creativity. Although the material was likely similar to what I would have learned at USC, it was really interesting to have an international perspective in a subject I had previously learned only in my home country.
Studying abroad was definitely one of the highlights of my undergraduate experience; going during fall 2019, when the Hong Kong protests were in full swing, was an unforgettable time, giving me an important international perspective on democracy and the psychological impacts on front-line protestors. My time studying abroad was my first international experience and it reaffirmed my desire to work globally after graduation, especially in Asia.”
I would strongly encourage all students to spend at least one semester abroad, especially those who are interested in the study of the mind; getting a new perspective is on it is invaluable.
