Talk to me about: Anything really. Classes, clubs, you name it!
Some background about me: I took MARI 302: Marine Vertebrates (one of the BEST classes I have taken at Otago and USC alike); MARI 301: Marine Ecology; GEOL 265: Natural Hazards of NZ and Beyond; and MAOR 102: Māori Society. I was part of the Tramping (OUTC), Scuba Diving (OUDC), Art, Slow Food, and Geology clubs. I rock climbed (both indoor and outdoor), scuba dived (I was even able to cage dive with great white sharks 2 hours from Dunedin!), tramped (aka hiking), and spelunked. Also, I did many road trips on both the North and South Islands. Ask me about logistics and what to see and do (such as in Wellington I recommend you visit the Te Papa and The Library (bar)). Or on how to budget as a college student (& where to snag the best deals) while staying in Dunedin and what are the best coffee spots, ice cream spots, and activities you should try on your downtime there! (such as you MUST visit Pequeño (live jazz bar on Thursdays) and see the little blue penguins!)
If you have any questions let me know, I am happy to help! 🫡
Advice: About a month before I had to leave for New Zealand, the realization that I was about to go to another country… on the other side of the world… by myself… for a whole six months.. to live and go to school with people I have never met before who think and do things differently than people in the US, etc started to sink and I became really nervous. There were so many unknowns and I started to second-guess myself. I later realized that whenever this nervous feeling pops up it usually means that you will experience the most growth and it is usually best for you in the long run. And sure enough, studying abroad in New Zealand was one of the best decisions I have made in my life so far. I had so many memorable new experiences, made lifelong friendships with people from all over the world, and I learned so much about myself. lol also the “f*** it, we ball” mentality is really helpful.
