California Naturalist Program

USC Sea Grant partners in the UC Davis Extension CA Naturalist Program, USC Environmental Studies Program, and other community partner organizations to provide training that combines local and traditional ecologic knowledge and scientific knowledge that can be used to foster effective interpretive programs about coastal regions. We support capacity building with interpreters representative of the communities we serve, in the field with a strong understanding of the natural history of California with an emphasis on coastal areas.

Participants who complete all course requirements are certified as California Naturalists through the University of California Extension California Naturalist Program. Credit is available from UC Davis Extension for an additional fee.
