Jacob Vargas – USC Madrid

Talk to me about: You guessed it — just about anything! From preparing to study abroad, your time in Madrid, or adjusting back to campus life in LA, shoot me any questions and I’ll try my best to answer them! I’d love to chat with you about Madrid, its beautiful culture, amazing people, and vibrant social scene. I have an exhaustive list of must try places in the city that I love sharing with people, so please reach out so I can live vicariously through you. Lastly, if you need tips on travel, I’m your guy — I was the designated travel agent in my friend group! Studying abroad is 100% my newest personality trait, so I’m excited to talk to people who actually want to hear about it!

Advice: Do it all, but remember to live in the moment. Studying abroad, without a doubt, will be one of the most exciting things you do while in college. It’s easy to get ahead of yourself and come rushing into the semester with a million plans of what you want to do and where you want to go. Trust me, I was the exact same way. Space out all of your super fun and fast-paced trips with time to enjoy Madrid and the rest of what Spain has to offer in between. When you slow down, you’re able to appreciate the opportunity that studying in Spain has to offer. With that being said, learn to say yes! New friends? Yes! Your friends want to go on a trip to a city fresh on your radar? Sure! Want to try this cool restaurant or go to this fun bar? Why not! This is your time to get out of your comfort zone and gain experiences that will lead to personal growth. Remember, not everyone has the opportunity to go on the journey you are about to embark on. Take advantage of this unique privilege, hold steady once the homesickness kicks in, and most importantly, embrace the unknown!
