Derek Corbin in Dunedin

I feel like the most important thing I got out of being abroad was a new world view. Going to a small city in a small country was really eye-opening and showed me a completely different way to live. The easy-going lifestyle of the kiwis felt natural to me and adjusting to a new university was a welcome challenge that allowed me to meet tons of new people. In the end, I felt rejuvenated when I left and my passion for the environment only increased.

I think my biggest piece of advice is to get involved in the university. When I was there, I joined the ultimate frisbee team, a netball team, and the environmental club. they all allowed me to meet some non-exchange students become more involved in the university community. Being in these clubs not only made me feel more at home but I also felt pride for my university and for this wonderful country!
