Betty Thai in Beijing

I studied abroad at Peking University in Beijing through the CIEE Intensive Chinese Language (ICL) program. My abroad semester helped me complete my second major East Asian Languages and Cultures (EALC). My mainlanguage classes abroad counted as the language requirements for the major, and the remaining electives I took counted as upper-division courses. I only knew these classes would help complete my major after coming home and sitting down with my advisor after my grades were sent to USC. If you are at the advanced level (HSK 5 or 6), I would recommend taking the electives “English-to-Chinese Translation” and “Topics in Chinese Culture.” It was incredibly rewarding seeing my exponential growth in language proficiency. I also genuinely had some of the best times of my life with new friends exploring every part of Beijing and different parts of China.
