Reminder on Graduate Certificate units
Units taken for the PhD may be applied toward graduate certificates, upon review. Course counting is subject to the certificate program’s catalogue restrictions.
Note on Directed Research
A contract is required in order to receive d-clearance for enrollment in directed research. Please follow-up with the CSLC Staff Graduate Advisor if you need additional direction on enrollment. Clearance will not be provided until contract has been approved and completed.
Transferring units
If you are coming to the PhD program from an MA program and are interested in transferring units, this is a two-pronged process. This includes the administrative process of having the units posted to your student record with the Registrar’s Office; units are not automatically posted to your student record. More information on the process is here. Simultaneous the that process, collect syllabi from the classes you wish to transfer and submit them to your track advisor for review. Once both processes are completed and your track advisor has shared which courses should be counted toward the PhD, the CSLC Staff Graduate Advisor can proceed with adding the units to your PhD.
For GRSC-800 (a, b, z): Studies for the Qualifying Exam enrollment
If you intend to enroll in GRSC-800, please check in with the CSLC Staff Graduate Advisor as well as your track advisor. Enrollment in GRSC-800 ensures full-time enrollment (0 units = 6 units/full-time enrollment). If you intend to enroll in a third enrollment of GRSC 800, which would be GRSC-800z, please contact the CSLC Staff Graduate Advisor as a petition needs to be prompted to begin to process the third enrollment.
For dissertation enrollment units
A reminder for you at the dissertation stage—in order to maintain full-time enrollment, you will need to enroll in dissertation units (2 or 0 units = 6 units/full-time enrollment). Make sure you are checking in with your dissertation advisor regularly. Email the CSLC Staff Graduate Advisor and cc your academic advisor to obtain clearance.
Avoid late registration fees and fellowship pay outs
You have ample time to enroll in courses should you need to take care of any registration holds. Note that if you are continuing in coursework, some classes are subject to availability—i.e., students from other programs enrolling in courses that may dovetail into your research interests.
Further, the January 2023 stipend will not be paid out if you are not enrolled by January 2, 2023. There are several pay periods scheduled for the first month of the semester, but please be advised to enroll early so then any issues that might be delaying payments can be addressed as quickly as possible.
