Are you in your first or second year at USC and interested in exploring philosophy as a major or minor? Are you a current major or minor and interested in learning how an education in philosophy can help you in your future plans? Would you like to get more engaged in the philosophy department and connect better with fellow students of philosophy?

You can do all of these and more—apply to become a philosophy mentee!

The Undergraduate Mentoring Program is an initiative under USC’s chapter of Minorities and Philosophy (MAP) that will seek to match you with a graduate student in the philosophy department for a year. Your mentor will be there to support you in your philosophical journey at USC and help connect you with resources as well as opportunities to get involved in the department and beyond.

Throughout the fall and spring, you will be expected to:

  • Meet with your mentor about once a month for a total of 3 times per semester
  • Attend at least one event in the philosophy department each semester

Philosophy students at all stages and of all pathways are welcome to apply, including undeclared students interested in pursuing philosophy as a major or minor, and those interested in applying to law schools.

Students who identify with a historically underrepresented group are especially encouraged to apply; groups traditionally underrepresented in philosophy include—but are not limited to—women, LGBTQ and gender non-conforming people, people of color or people racialized as nonwhite, people with disabilities, people from economically disadvantaged communities, and first-generation college students.

If you are interested in participating, the signup form can be accessed here and will be open until Friday, October 10, 2025. If you have questions about the program, please do not hesitate to reach out to Yuanye Hu (yuanyehu@usc.edu) and Aaron Suduiko (suduiko@usc.edu).
