Summary Statement of Research Interests
My research interests include East Asian cinemas and literatures in a transnational context. More specifically, I am interested in the discursive constructions of early Korean cinema: how colonial Korean filmmakers, writers, and moviegoers theorized the artform as an incursion of Western modernity, a tool of imperial Japanese hegemony, and an articulation of Korean identity.
