Faculty from the Department of Chemistry are actively involved in a range of public engagement activities which explain the relevance of our research to non-scientists and increase the involvement of underrepresented groups in STEM.
Summer Experience in Renewable and Green Energy (SERGE)
SERGE is an immersive, four-day science camp for Native American middle school students that aims to spark interest in STEM fields. Camp participants are members of the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indian tribe and attend middle schools in Southern California.

Beach Cleanups
The Fieser Research Group organizes three beach cleanups each year. In collaboration with Heal the Bay, they compile data on waste collection to be used for policy development. Research Internships
Since 2010, USC and Cerritos College have worked together to offer paid research internships to qualified Cerritos students. This 8-week, NSF-funded summer program introduces participants to USC’s ongoing laboratory research in energy and sustainability.
