Hannah Roth

Hannah Roth is a rising junior at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. She is currently working towards Undergraduate Degrees in Anthropology and History with a concentration in Latin American Studies. During her residency, Roth plans to conduct ethnographic research examining how individual experiences of sexual violence contribute to collective trauma, with a comparative study of survivor testimonies from the Anti-Rohingya mass violence, the Bosnian War, and the Rwandan and Guatemalan genocides. At Grinnell, Roth has researched sexual violence and gender discrimination through the lens of her experience as a student-athlete, conducting a directed-research archival ethnography on Grinnell’s Women’s Cross Country Team, exploring Title IX’s role in facilitating unique campus and athletic cultures. Additionally, she has conducted extensive ethnography on manifestations of sexual violence in outdoor recreation and rock-climbing. Beyond her role as a member of the Grinnell College Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field team, Hannah works as a staff member at Grinnell’s Outdoor Recreation Program.
