Research and Educational Facilities

the WMSC lab building, a three-story building encircled by outdoor breezeways and topped with a red tile roof
a large scientific lab with tanks, benches, and equipment
a small, cubicle-style lab with a bench, supplies, and equipment

The WMSC amphitheatre, which has a large open stage covered in patio-style tables, chairs and umbrellas, and wooden bleacher-style seating. The structure overlooks an ocean cove.

The Wrigley Marine Science lab building. Labs and the campus lecture hall, along with offices for staff and faculty, are located in this building around a central, open courtyard.

Most wet labs are equipped with sea tables, which are supplied with piped seawater from a depth of 25 feet.

Available equipment includes most standard laboratory glassware, access to onsite molecular laboratory, incubators, drying ovens, and more. Request for equipment can be made during the reservation process or by submitting a research activities plan.

Some microscopes, such as the epifluorescence microscope pictured here, allow projection onto high-resolution video monitors or directly to your laptop for image capture.

The newly renovated Hagenah Family Board Room is Zoomified and has modern A/V capabilities to allow for meetings and presentations to be broadcast to or from the room. The furniture is modular, and the room can be divided in half with a folding wall.

The lab building also contains a multipurpose classroom, with modular tables and chairs that can be set up as individual desks or in groups. The room is also Zoomified with modern A/V capabilities.

The amphitheatre can accommodate approximately 100 people and provides a stunning view of the Marine Protected Area in Big Fisherman Cove. The stage can be used as pictured for events or small breakout/discussion groups, or can be set up for outdoor classes and lectures.

Boone Center, Housing, and Dining Hall

A map of the residential portion of the WMSC campus, showing the Boone Center, other housing, the dining hall, and their locations relative to the lab building.

The Boone Center is designed to serve as a center for environment- or sustainability-themed retreats and small conferences.

The Boone Center’s main meeting room is set up in small-group seating arrangements by default, to encourage informal collaboration. The room can be easily reconfigured to suit more traditional classroom or boardroom-style gatherings. Our event coordinator will work with you to determine what setup best meets the needs of your group.

The Boone Center boardroom, located on the second floor above the main room, allows for quieter, more focused meetings.

The Boone Center includes townhouse-style lodgings, with 2-3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living/dining area, and a kitchenette in each unit.

Cottage and apartment housing on the WMSC campus is designed to accommodate conference groups, faculty, and other researchers for extended stays. Apartments are 1 bedroom/1 bath, and cottages are 2-3 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms each. All apartments and cottages have living/dining areas and full kitchens, to allow guests to prepare their own food as needed.

The WMSC dorm includes rooms with both private and shared bathrooms and is designed to accommodate students for extended stays. Rooms sleep 1-3 students each, and shared bathrooms accommodate 4-6 students each. All bed linens and bath towels are provided.

The dining hall serves three meals per day, with beverages and fresh fruit available 24/7. Note: grab-and-go meals may be substituted for full-service dining when few guests are on campus.
