#FridayFacts: Ep. 3 Energy Efficiency and Old Buildings

ByVanessa Codilla

In the spring of 2025, the USC Wrigley Institute for Environment and Sustainability launched a new video series called #FridayFacts to bring climate and sustainability topics to the forefront of social media feeds. Spotlighting innovative research and solutions led by Wrigley Institute-affiliated researchers, the series focuses on sharing timely, factual information in bite-sized, easily digestible videos.

The latest episode of #FridayFacts features Victoria Petryshyn, Associate Professor of Environmental Studies at USC Dornsife and faculty member of the USC Online Master of Sustainability Management, discussing efforts to make the iconic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum more sustainable. She walks viewers through an assessment of the building’s energy use and the practical measures put in place to save energy.

In addition to energy efficiency, the USC Environmental Studies Program has supported the Coliseum’s broader sustainability efforts, including its zero-waste initiatives, helping ensure that large events like Trojan football games are managed with less environmental impact. These solutions put research into action, producing tangible change within the surrounding community.
