International Relations Minors

The International Relations minor compliments any major; introducing the conceptual tools you will need to thrive in the fast-changing world of tomorrow and providing an understanding of how global developments affects your lives and work.  This is an ideal minor for those interested in entering the public policy realm or the business world. It is an excellent stepping stone toward graduate programs in foreign affairs, law, public administration, public policy, urban planning, political science and business.

MINOR REQUIREMENTS – 5 COURSES (20 UNITS)

One Lower Division Course                   

• IR 210: International Relations: Introductory Analysis

Four Upper Division Courses

• One Regional Course
• One IR 400 level Course
• Two IR Upper Division Courses

Additional Restrictions

• Maximum two courses (8-units) of IR 499 Special Topics courses may be applied toward the minor.
• All minors at USC have a rule of four. Four courses (16-units) must be unique to the minor, which means that they do not double count with any other requirements, and four courses (16-units) must be outside your major department.

The International Policy and Management minor brings together courses from the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences and the Sol Price School of Public Policy, Planning, and Development. This minor is ideal for those who picture themselves running multinational corporations, negotiating with foreign governments, or those interested in the policy and management issues that affect different regions of the world.  This program will provide students with an understanding of the changes transforming the world and a taste of the policy and management skills to deal with them.  Students will look at how those implications change when applied to other cultures, countries, or regions of the world.  To put these techniques to practice, students are required to participate in an internship with an international focus.
