Biography

Mariechristine (she/her) works on the cultural environmental history of the early medieval Mediterranean West, with a special interest in the role of water in religious writing. Her research focuses on the relationship between physical and imagined environments, and role that environmental narratives play in inspiring community action to respond to significant climatological and environmental events. 

Before coming to USC, Mariechristine graduated from Claremont McKenna College with BAs in Late-Antique Medieval Studies and Literature, where she graduated with departmental honors. Following her time at CMC, she received an MA in medieval environmental history at the University of Nevada-Reno, where she was an NSF-sponsored fellow, pursuing paleoenvironmental and historical research for the project “Combining Historical and Ecologic Archibes to Understand Past Climate Change.”

Mariechristine is an avid sport climber and mountaineer.
