Biography

Jessica Somers is a fourth-year Doctoral Candidate in the English department and a Graduate Certificate student in Gender and Sexuality Studies. She earned a B.A. in English from CSU Long Beach and an M.A. in English from CSU Los Angeles, where she served as a writing consultant and wrote a Master’s thesis on colonial ambivalence and queerness in the lesser-known short stories of E. M. Forster. Her dissertation, currently in its early stages, examines British colonial homes and domestic objects in global anglophone literature of the long nineteenth century. She is a first-generation student from Los Angeles.
