Biography
Douglas Cavers is a Ph.D. student in CSLC’s Comparative Literature track at USC. He holds a B.A. in English from Tufts University and an M.A. in Classical Studies from Boston. Douglas’ research focuses on the complex intersections of ancient Latin poetry with the emergent imaginaries of early modernity, particularly around practices of reading in and across cultures. While he normally works on Latin poetry’s reception in early modern English literature, he also reads in French and Neo-Latin traditions. In the future, he also hopes for his research to reflect on dynamics of reception in Chinese literature, including the roles of reading ancient literature in early modern theorizing of China-Europe relations.
