Biography

Alexis (Lexi) is a Ph.D. candidate in Classics at USC. She completed her BA at USC and her MA at the University of Massachusetts, Boston where she studied second language acquisition theory as it pertains to ancient language pedagogy.

Lexi’s dissertation project considers the intersection of Roman cult practice and imperial poetics in the Thebaid of Statius, a Roman epic from the late first century CE. Lexi’s research interests include Roman epic, poetics and intertextuality, Roman political thought, religion in the premodern Mediterranean, and ancient drama. Lexi also moonlights as an epigrapher: as a member of a research team led by Dr. Jennifer Devereaux (Harvard), she has examined several thousands of Latin inscriptions for markers of isonymic practice throughout the Roman world.
