Emma Jahoda-Brown
Biography
Emma Jahoda-Brown is a poet, photographer and anthropologist. Her research interests include the emerging field of discard studies and the chemical turn in anthropology. She graduated with a BFA from CalArts in 2017 with a concentration on photography and media. During her studies she lived and worked with a local community to oppose the expansion of a landfill, the boundaries of which were less than a mile away from resident’s homes. In addition to her activism, she documented, researched and wrote about the landfill, which culminated in an exhibition and book entitled Landfill. In 2023, she graduated with an MFA in poetry from Columbia University. Her MFA thesis project, a forthcoming chapbook, is a collection of poems entitled Landscape With. Her doctoral work is centered around the landfill she previously lived and worked next to in Val Verde, California. This work engages with questions around the sensory and environmental regulation.
