Biography
Emma Jahoda-Brown is a poet, photographer and future experimental anthropologist. Her research interests include the emerging field of discard studies and the chemical turn in anthropology. She graduated with a BFA from CalArts in 2017 with a concentration on photography and media. During her studies she lived and worked with a local community to oppose the expansion of a landfill, the boundaries of which were less than a mile away from resident’s homes. In addition to her activism, she documented, researched and wrote about the landfill, which culminated in an exhibition and book entitled Landfill. In 2023, she graduated with an MFA in poetry from Columbia University. Her thesis project, a forthcoming chapbook, is a collection of poems entitled Landscape With. Her intentions at USC are to learn the tools of the social sciences and, along with her skills as a writer and artist, investigate the effects of waste on the environment.
