Housing, Food Service and Related Usage and Rental Fees

The Wrigley Marine Science Center charges modest fees for most services.

Housing Fees

All housing is subject to availability. All-inclusive conference rates are available. Checkout time is 10 a.m., but earlier checkout times might be requested by our housing coordinator in some situations.

Wrigley Apartments and Dormitory Rooms

Our Residence Hall includes four furnished apartments—two one-bedroom units and two two-bedroom units—and all of them have spacious living rooms and are equipped with full kitchens. We also have 26 dormitory rooms: 18 of the rooms are in our Residence Hall (six with shared baths, six with private baths) and eight more rooms are in two Dorm Cottages, with four dorm rooms per cottage.

Linens are provided. Guests are responsible for making their beds (these accommodations do not have daily room service).

Boone Center Housing

The newest addition to our housing is the George and MaryLou Boone Center for Environmental Leadership. These units offer "island elegance" are deluxe furnishings and interior decoration. The Boone Center has five two-bedroom cottages with light prep kitchens, and a Meeting House with one bedroom, a light prep kitchen and a large living room appropriate for small meetings and entertainment for groups of up to 30 people. Each bedroom is appointed with two twin beds that can be reconfigured to a king-size bed.

Rooms generally accommodate two people per room at the listed price. Additional guests, if approved, will be charged an additional fee.

Food Service


Usage Fees

All users of the lab are expected to pay a small daily fee to cover the basic academic infrastructure of the facility.

Gear rental for kayaks, snorkeling gear, etc.

Use of the waterfront, diving and science space might require special checkouts, certification or advance permission. Boat fees

Boats are available for scientific research, and their usage is restricted to scientific purposes only.

Small Boats
The 12- to 15-foot Boston Whalers

Large Boats
Cetacea (21 feet)

Transportation Fees

WMSC vehicles and drivers are available on a limited basis. Reservations must be made prior to arrival. In some cases, vehicle rental will require an additional charge for a staff driver.

Van, for up to 10 maximum passengers

Visiting groups that wish to rent a WMSC vehicle must hire a WMSC staff driver. Visiting researchers can rent and drive vehicles and will be required to complete paperwork and a checkout procedure.

The interior of Catalina Island is managed by the Catalina Island Conservancy, and transportation to the island interior might involve a nominal per person fee charged by the Conservancy.

Lab Fees

Shared use labs are divided into "cubicles" of roughly 110 to 140 square feet. Each cubicle has a small, seated-height lab bench and adjacent standing-height lab benches. All labs have common use sinks, most have running seawater tables and some have fume hoods. 

Teaching labs and lecture spaces are also rented for part and full days. Half-day rates for lab facilities apply to use of four hours or less.

Professional Staff Time

Professional staff time is available for lectures, laboratory work, marine and terrestrial field trips and natural history programs.


Tours of the Wrigley Marine Science Center include a stop at the touch tank and visits to the laboratory and hyperbaric chamber (when chamber crew are available).
