Summary Statement of Research Interests
Kseniia’s research interests include the late Soviet “stagnation” period, perestroika, and post-Soviet Russia under Vladimir Putin. She is particularly interested in cultural production under authoritarian rule, including the ways political resistance, censorship, and state ideology shape film, music, and visual culture. Her work focuses especially on mass and popular culture for children and young people—from comedy, children’s films, animation, and popular songs to underground movements—and on the emergence of new genres in film and music and their relationship to politics. She is also interested in new media forms, including social media, online video, and streaming platforms, and their role in shaping contemporary cultural and political discourse.
