  • Summary Statement of Research Interests

I am deeply interested in Russian formalism, futurism and poetry. I examine formalist, avant-garde, and futurist experiments in Soviet literature and Poetic cinema. Specifically, my research project explores Sergei Parajanov’s necropoetics in scripts, letters, essays, and his visual legacy.
My research also contributes to a better understanding in the intersection of power, discourse, and culture as well as postcolonial literature as a site of (re) production of ideology and language. I explore the themes of necropoetics in Soviet culture, and how poetics of death and dying intersects with the futurist and apocalyptic imaginary in Soviet literature and cinematic texts. My prime interest here is to analyze how themes of death and dying are connected with violence, forms of politics and transformations in post-Stalin culture.
