Professional Tracks
The Office of Pre-Health Advisement offers advising for the pre-health professional tracks listed below. Digital advising handouts are available below, and printed copies are available in the Pre-Health Office (HNB120).
Although we provide information on our website, we encourage you to research specific admissions requirements for each school of interest and incorporate any special/additional requirements into your academic schedule. Each health professional school sets its own requirements regarding courses. When in doubt, you are encouraged to check with the admission offices of the health professional schools to which you plan to apply.
Please note that “pre-health” is not a major. You can select any major or minor in addition to your pre-health track. We encourage you to explore the Dornsife Academics website for how to choose a major. In addition, there are several suggestions from Dornsife for majors and minors related to medicine.
Pre-Health Course Planning Guide
Choosing your courses is an important first step on your journey to becoming a health professional and ensuring you meet the necessary pre-requisites for admission to professional schools. Every student’s pre-health journey looks a little different. THERE IS NO ONE SIZE FITS ALL. We promote a well-balanced academic experience.
Overall, we encourage you to find a pace that is comfortable for you, not too challenging, and to ensure you are successful.
Per AAMC.org, about 75% of students took a gap year. A gap year can allow additional time for pre-requisites, standardized exams, and the application process.
We hope you will find the following information helpful as you navigate course planning at USC.
