Our mission is to conduct outstanding research and teaching in physics and astronomy. We are striving to be the intellectual foundation of USC ́s scientific community, leading innovations in basic and applied research, and thus driving developments in all areas of science. Graduate and undergraduate education is central to our mission, preparing students for successful careers working both in academia and industry.
We are committed to treating each other respectfully and professionally, and we work to create an inclusive and equitable environment in which every individual can be and feel welcomed, respected, supported, and valued, regardless of race, gender identity, nationality, disability, socio-economic and religious background. For more information, see our Diversity page.
There is a strong component of student governance in our Department: the Society of Physics Students (SPS), Graduate Students in Physics (GASP), and Women in Physics (WiP) all play important roles in student life in the Department through outreach and professional development activities.
