There is tremendous value gained through a cultural immersion. Given the team of educators, the classroom learning opportunity is clearly impressive. However, the unique experience of immersing oneself in a foreign land provides a global perspective that is critical to successful future work as a global citizen.

A study abroad experience can be a once in a lifetime opportunity when and where a student has the chance to explore their passion in a place they have always dreamt of going and surrounded by people who, though new in their life, are there to support the exploration and learning. This unique experience can also lead to a lifetime engagement with that location and it’s peoples, with friendships that are forged during a cultural or field program enduring over time. The Kenyan cultural immersion program I participated in during my undergraduate career, was my first exposure to African culture and landscapes and has led to lifelong connection and a career working with the wildlife and people there. I would not have been able to afford such a trip or experience otherwise and will always be grateful for that initial experience and opportunity.
