The search for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Marine Biology during 2021-2022 resulted in the hiring of not one, but TWO outstanding new faculty: Dr. Julia Schwartzman, who began in January 2023, and Dr. Noelle Held, who will begin in January 2024.

Dr. Schwartzman most recently was a postdoc at MIT and her lab investigates emergent multicellularity and marine symbioses using a combination of genomics, genetics, and quantitative light microscopy.

Dr. Held is currently a postdoc at ETH Zurich and her lab will expand MEB’s analytical strengths with new quantitative proteomics approaches and research across scales from proteins to ecosystems.

We have also hired a new Associate Professor of Teaching in Dr. Cameron Egan. Dr. Egan will teach introductory biology, ecology, evolution, and other courses in support of the BISC major.

MEB is very excited to have such talented new faculty join our group!
