JEP New Staff Spotlight: Sharon Blount

Sharon Blount is the newest member to join the staff at JEP.  In 2015, Blount, as a ‘seasoned, nontraditional’ student, returned to USC after a thirty year absence to complete her undergraduate degree. Knowing that she wanted to do something meaningful and rewarding with her limited free time, Blount applied for the receptionist position in the JEP office as a work-study student. Blount graduated and received her B.A. in Broadcast and Digital Journalism from Annenberg School of Communication in 2016. Her warm personality, strong work ethic and dedication was noted by the JEP staff and she was offered a position as Assistant Office Manager in the summer of 2017.

Blount comes to JEP with previous experience as Development Coordinator at Hands for Hope After School Program located in North Hollywood.  Blount is also currently working towards her MFA in Creative Writing at Mount Saint Mary’s University.  Blount is Mom to three young adults, Chason, 18, a freshman at Berklee College of Music in Boston; Camdon, 21, a sophomore at Woodbury College in Burbank; and Brielle, 25, a Berklee College of Music MFA Graduate.

“I‘ve seen firsthand how providing support and resources for disadvantaged children in local communities opens doors, opportunities and presents circumstances which will enable them to thrive. . . . This is such a great time to be a student and to be a part of the JEP Family. . . . I get to work with, and see, incredibly motivated USC students take on community work and responsibilities with such passion and in addition to their already demanding class assignments They handle it beautifully and even shine. It’s very inspiring and quite humbling,” said Blount.
