What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a discipline that uses scientific principles of learning and motivation to solve socially meaningful problems. Research and practice in ABA has successfully addressed a large variety of applied problems, including behavior disorders, performance management in organizations, performance in competitive sports, and the developmental disorders. The most widely known application of ABA is the assessment and treatment of individuals with autism spectrum disorders. Treatments based on ABA are now widely recognized as the gold standard for helping children and adults with autism develop skills across all developmental domains and live happier and more independent lives.

Curriculum

The Master of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis program consists of a state-of-the-art curriculum. The Association for Behavior Analysis International has verified the courses in this program toward the coursework requirements for eligibility to take the Board Certified Behavior Analyst® or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst® examination. The program coursework is based on a foundation of the classic research and readings in applied behavior analysis (ABA), but incorporates the latest in research, so that students receive the most up-to-date training available anywhere.

In addition to didactic coursework, students take practicum courses that provide real-life experience and training. Practicum assignments build critical competencies that students will immediately put to use in real-life work experiences. Students simultaneously learn from real-life examples of content learned in class, while also learning the job skills needed to succeed as a professional clinician. The Master of Science in ABA program was specifically designed to bridge the gap between science and practice by turning students into true scientist-practitioners, thereby equipping them to be future leaders in the field of ABA.
