Building coalitions across the political spectrum can help combat climate change, says Wrigley Institute Director

How did the issue of climate change shift from a scientific question to an issue of partisan politics?

Wrigley Institute Director Joe Árvai, who leads a team of researchers studying critical thinking and intuitive decision-making in environmental issues, points out two key drivers: the oil industry and growing political divides in the United States.

So, where do we go from here?

According to Árvai, doubling down on climate policies that are in only close adherence with our own political leanings will serve only to strengthen the divide. “Continuing to chip away at the partisan barriers that separate Americans on climate change will require even more coalition building that sets an example by being ambitious, productive and visible,” says Árvai.
