From the Global to the Planetary? Changing Concepts of Health in an Age of Environmental Crisis

On March 23rd, STPL collaborated with the Berggruen Institute on a one-day regional workshop on the theme of “From the Global to the Planetary? Changing Concepts of Health in an Age of Environmental Crisis,” co-organized by Andrew Lakoff, Peter Redfield and Luisa Reis-Castro of STPL and Jonathan Blake and Nils Gilman of BI.  The event included presentations by historians, social scientists, public health experts, and environmental scientists from USC, UCLA, UC Irvine, and the Natural History Museum, as well as EHESS visiting professor Frédéric Keck. The workshop explored the intersection of social, health and ecological problems in areas such as toxic chemical pollution, exposure to wildfire smoke, vector-borne disease, and clean water access.
