In this week’s ‘50 for 50,’ we hear from Jiaqi Wang! Wang did it all here at JEP – she started out as a volunteer before becoming a program assistant, a position she held for three years. She also spent time as a TA, and was a part of our Pre-Law Project!
“JEP was the best part of my college life, period.”
“As an international student, I never expected to be able to find a community on campus that would be so welcoming and eye-opening in my very first semester. I signed up for JEP [to get out of a big class assignment], but [instead signed up] for a life-changing experience. During my volunteering time, I truly enjoyed working with my students and helping them with their homework. I even went out of my way to teach them some simple words in Mandarin before their classes. I applied to be a PA the very next semester, and got the job!”
“Going into this job, I was super nervous about doing class presentations to promote JEP, organizing one-on-one chats and group discussions with my students. However, JEP has a great support system and helped me get out of my comfort zone. I was able to meet a lot of amazing students who had insights about their times on-site, as well as PAs with great passions for helping others, and experienced staff with strong visions about service-learning.”
“Overall, I am forever grateful to be a part of JEP, and witness its growth during the 3 and half years I was there. Happy 50th Birthday!”
