Profile picture and text: 50 FOR 50 STORIES: Story #14: Stephanie SylvestreStory #14: Stephanie Sylvestre

This week, we hear from Stephanie Sylvestre, who participated in JEP as a student in the fall of 1991. She’s here to share a funny and heartwarming story from her time volunteering with the program…

“I was teaching ESL students and at the end of the semester, we had a party and my mom made the food – the kids loved [the meal] so much that we had a game to determine who could take the leftovers home.”

“A student asked me something in Spanish that I didn’t understand and I said yes… Turns out she wanted all of the leftovers. I was a bit embarrassed when her request was translated and I had to tell her she couldn’t get all the leftovers. In the end, it was all good!”

We’re so grateful to have had volunteers like Stephanie working with us, and are even more grateful that they made such wonderful memories that have stuck around even years later!
