L.A. Times Festival of Books

On April 21-22, the University was enveloped in amazing authors and literature. For the 2018 L.A. Festival of Books, which took place on April 21-22, USC Dornsife once again generously provided ReadersPlus a booth to represent both the College and JEP. This year, the L.A. Times partnered with JEP to expand its booth located in McCarthy Quad (Booth #570) in the Children’s Area of the Festival. Individuals that visited the booth during the festival received copies of “Reading by 9,” a guide for parents to help support their children’s literacy. On both days of the festival, the ReadersPlus and JEP student staff interacted with the individuals that came through the booth by reading various books aloud that were connected to the ReadersPlus writing contest theme, “Your Hero.” Student essays from the contest were displayed for festival-goers to enjoy as well.
In addition to the free take-aways created for children and festival-goers at the booth, children who attend any of the JEP partners school also received free books donated by the Ella Fitzgerald Foundation, DK Books, and Cascade Pass Inc. and tote bags to carry all the goodies they received. It was another successful Festival of Books for ReadersPlus! We can’t wait to see what next year has in store.
