2025-26 Call for Funding Proposals

Deadline: Rolling

The Center for International Studies will support the cost of an annual International Studies Association (ISA) membership ($55) to PhD students from the Political Science and International Relations Department. This mirrors POIR’s policy of funding PhD students seeking membership to American Political Science Association (APSA).

Please submit your request via the center’s online application form for ISA Membership support.

Please note that ISA membership can be used to attend (at the member rate registration fee) other ISA regional conferences as well as ISA-cosponsored conferences around the world. See isanet.org for more information.

Eligibility

Eligible students will (a) be active in CIS programming; and (b) have been accepted to present one’s paper at an upcoming ISA annual conference (Chicago, March 2–5, 2025; Columbus, Ohio, March 22–25, 2026); or (c) intend to attend an upcoming ISA West conference (annually in September) in Pasadena.

You will be asked to provide confirmation of your acceptance as a presenter to the ISA Annual Conference or documentation of your submission to present at ISA West.

Requirements

CIS expects that PhD students receiving membership support to give a practice conference talk sponsored by the center early in the spring semester prior to the Annual ISA conference. Those who are not attending this main conference are encouraged to submit their paper proposals to ISA regional conferences, especially ISA West in Pasadena (the proposal deadline is in May).

You are also encouraged to attend the POIR PhD office’s professionalization session on conference presentations in January.

Membership Payments

The center can either coordinate with you to make the purchase of a membership on your behalf or reimburse you if you have already made the purchase (please provide documentation of your purchase).

You can direct any questions to cis@dornsife.usc.edu.

The Center for International Studies is committed to ensuring equity in its mission to support scholarship in international studies.
