Fall 2024: “Impact of Technology on Political Participation” with NationBuilder

For the Fall 2024 semester, CPF POSC 395 Policy Research Internship students explored how technology can be used to facilitate political participation, mobilization, and fundraising. They examined the driving forces of mobilization and the role and impact of social media and AI in facilitating political participation. Students researched the historical overview and impact of political fundraising. They presented their extensive research and recommendations to our partner, NationBuilder.

Tyki Jones, a senior majoring in Philosophy, Politics, and Law, said this about his research experience:

“I focused my research on the influence emerging technologies (AI and Blockchain) will have on politics and political fundraising. I focused on NationBuilder’s mission of ‘bridging the gap between the inspiration to cause change and tangible action using technology’ and made specific recommendations for different implementations of AI into NationBuilder’s product to help with this mission. I gained research and communication skills over this experience and learned a lot about the specific ways that AI is impacting industry, and the changes it will likely bring in the future.”
