Social Media Manager

Location: Los Angeles (hybrid)

The USC Dornsife Institute of Armenian Studies is seeking a creative and dynamic part-time Social Media Manager to join our team. The selected candidate will be responsible for producing and managing social media content, including graphics and video, across multiple platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, and LinkedIn. The role will involve developing social media campaigns to promote the Institute’s events, projects, and programming to engage a wider audience and grow the Institute’s online presence. This position will be instrumental in increasing the visibility and impact of the Institute’s initiatives and fostering a deeper connection with the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop Social Media Campaigns: Plan, create and execute social media campaigns to promote the Institute’s events, initiatives, research, and programming. Collaborate with staff to identify key themes and messaging for campaigns to increase engagement and awareness.
  • Content Creation: Create compelling and engaging multimedia content, including graphics, videos, and written posts. Tailor content to specific platforms to maximize reach and engagement, ensuring consistency with the Institute’s branding and messaging.
  • Social Media Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy to grow the Institute’s online presence and increase its impact. 
  • Community Engagement: Engage with the Institute’s online community by responding to comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely and professional manner. Foster an inclusive, positive environment that encourages dialogue and interaction with followers.
  • Analytics & Reporting: Track and analyze key performance metrics for all social media channels. Regularly report on the performance of posts, campaigns, and overall social media growth. Use insights to optimize content and campaigns continuously.
  • Content Calendar Management: Develop and maintain a content calendar to ensure consistent posting and timely promotion of upcoming events and initiatives. Collaborate with the Institute’s team to align content with the academic calendar and special programming.
  • Collaborate on Cross-Platform Initiatives: Work closely with other departments, partners, and stakeholders to promote collaborative events and initiatives across multiple platforms, leveraging partnerships for maximum outreach.
  • Graphic Design & Video Editing: Produce high-quality, visually engaging social media graphics and videos that resonate with target audiences. Use design tools and video editing software to create impactful visual content.

Qualifications: 

  • Experience: Proven experience in social media management, content creation, and digital marketing. Experience in a similar position, particularly in an academic setting, is a plus.
  • Interest in the Institute’s Work: A passion for the mission and work of the USC Dornsife Institute of Armenian Studies is strongly preferred, with a commitment to advancing the Institute’s visibility and reach.
  • Social Media Expertise: Strong working knowledge of major social media platforms including best practices for content creation, scheduling, and analytics.
  • Content Creation Skills: Proficiency in graphic design and video editing tools (e.g., PhotoShop, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro, etc.). 
  • Fluency: Fluency in English is required. Fluency in Armenian is preferred. 
  • Availability: Must be able to commute to USC during the week and occasionally on weekends for events or programming. Some flexibility in working hours is required, with the ability to attend virtual or in-person meetings.
  • Hybrid Work Environment: This is a hybrid position, with the option to work both remotely and on-site at USC.

Rate: $25-35 hour, commensurate with experience

The USC Dornsife Institute of Armenian Studies is a hub of research and learning that studies the contemporary Armenian diaspora and Republic of Armenia.
