APPLICATION DEADLINE: DECEMBER 1st OF EACH YEAR

We do not mail out nor accept paper applications.

  1. Please apply online: http://www.usc.edu/admission/graduate/apply/

    Once there you will be able to upload to your application the required materials and have your recommenders upload their letters to your application.

  2. Please Note: You must take the GRE General and Literature Subject Exams. NO EXCEPTIONS.

    If you take your GRE's in December, your scores will arrive after the application deadline. Taking your GRE's after the December 1st deadline is not acceptable and your application will not be read.

  3. Creative writing sample: Fiction (approximately 25 pages) or Poetry (approximately 10 - 12 pages). Please do not send entire manuscripts. Select and send only the approximate number of pages requested.

  4. Critical writing sample (10 - 25 pages). This writing sample must be a scholarly critical work. Book reviews will not satisfy this requirement.

  5. Statement of purpose (no more than 3 pages)

  6. Three letters of recommendation

  7. Statement of Interest in Teaching Composition (300-500 enthusiastic words)

  8. Resume/CV

  9. Official Transcripts: Please request official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate coursework. Send to the following address:
