Summary Statement of Research Interests

  • I work on 18th- and 19th-century poetry. I am particularly interested in resonances of 18th-century odic descriptions of nature in the 19th-century poetry and prose of Lermontov and Pushkin, as well as Pushkin's development of a lyric persona through Evgenii Onegin. I am also fascinated with Russia's place in world history, exploring questions of colonialism and empire -- how Russia fits into European and colonial historical narratives in the 18th through 20th centuries.
