Summer 2025 Education Student Worker
The Wrigley Institute for Environment and Sustainability is offering one summer student worker position for a USC student to support summer research and education programs at Catalina Island. The position will be based full-time at the Wrigley Marine Science Center (WMSC), near the island town of Two Harbors, from mid-May through mid-August 2025.

Located at the USC Wrigley Marine Science Center (WMSC) at Big Fisherman Cove on Catalina Island, your role as a Summer Education Student Worker will be to support education programs at Catalina Island. This position will also involve some overall administrative assistance for the WMSC.
In this role, you will work with WMSC’s Science Operations group to facilitate a variety of education groups during the summer season. Duties will involve support for classroom meetings and field activities, as well as co-curricular experiences such as hiking, kayaking and snorkeling in the local environment. Working closely with WMSC staff, you will build skills in environmental education, learn the inner working of a marine research laboratory, and network with researchers and visitors from multiple institutions.
Pay: $17.28/hour
Employment Dates: May 16 – August 15
Schedule: Normally Wednesday-Sunday, 9:00am-4:00pm, with some split shifts; schedule may vary, but we guarantee 30 hours/week
Housing and Living Arrangements: You will be housed on campus in our intern summer housing for no additional charge. Meals will be provided through the on-site Dining Hall at staff rates.
Getting to and from the island: Boat transportation will be provided via the USC vessel, which has departure times from SCMI in San Pedro. Catalina Express also has a public charter to the island for additional transportation needs at an additional cost to you.
Eligibility:
- Open to continuing USC students (both undergraduate and PDP)
- Preference will be given to Environmental Studies (ENST) majors and minors
- Must be available to live on Catalina for the full employment period
- Strong swimming skills required and CPR/First Aid training preferred; experience with kayaking and snorkeling preferred
