    USC URM Summer Radiology Research Program

    USC Department of Radiology (DOR) is launching the 2025 Underrepresented in Medicine (URM) Summer Radiology Research Scholarship Program with a goal of increasing the future representation of URMs in medicine, specifically radiology, and scientific research. In this 6-week program, participants will engage in mentored individual research projects and benefit from additional opportunities, including didactic lectures, hands-on skills workshops, and clinical shadowing. Participants will receive a $3,000 scholarship.

    Behavior Technician – MeBe

    As a Behavior Technician…

    You’ll teach and nurture behavioral, social, communication, and daily living skills in a 1:1 setting to kiddos with autism in their home or at MeBe’s Learning Center clinic

    You’ll follow treatment plans developed by BCBAs that help increase the kiddo’s communication, self-help, social and play skills.

    You’ll relay info on your kiddos’ progress to BCBAs to keep them informed and assist with BCBA assessments.

    At the end of each session, you’ll accurately record the kiddo’s behavior analysis and progress in our data collection system Central Reach using your work assigned tablet.

    You’ll be responsible for clocking in, submitting your session notes and clocking out to align with strict ABA and Insurance provider regulations.

    You’ll help with projects and tasks as directed by your Site Director and Clinical Supervisors.

    Keck/LA General Genetics Counseling Internship

    The University of Southern California offers an internship for students interested in a career in genetic counseling. This 1-year program offers an immersive experience into the field of genetic counseling with direct clinical exposure, supervised by practicing cancer genetic counselors.

    Undergraduate Clinical Research Assistant

    The MAPS (Multiracial Angle Closure Progression Study) team, led by Dr. Benjamin Xu, is looking for motivated undergraduate students to help us research glaucoma, the leading cause of irreversible vision loss worldwide.

    As a clinical research assistant, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience in patient recruitment, disease screening, and data analysis. This is a unique opportunity for students interested in clinical research or ophthalmology/optometry to develop skills for future academic or professional pursuits.

    Prior experience as an ophthalmic technician and/or Spanish is preferred but not required. While this is a volunteer position, there is a potential for work-study payment once students are trained and become productive lab members.

    Oculo-plastics and Orthopedic Surgery Internship

    As an intern for both Dr. Cynthia Boxrud and Dr. Scott Powell, you will learn about ophthalmology and oculoplastic surgery under Dr. Boxrud, and orthopedic surgery under Dr. Powell.

    The internship ensures you collaborate with the physicians by spending time with each patient, taking comprehensive histories and learning to advocate for patients by submitting prior authorizations for prescriptions, physical therapy, and imaging Interns will be able to observe oculoplastic, ophthalmic, and orthopedic surgeries. Interns learn to interpret x-rays and MRIs, learn sterile technique in the operating room, and also participate in research projects.

    Salary for the internship is $22 per hour. Interns can anticipate working 40 hours per week, with variability depending on patient and surgical load. Paid time off is provided for medical school interviews.

    This internship is based at Dr. Boxrud and Dr. Powell’s private office in Santa Monica, California. Start date for the position is Saturday, May 31st, 2025. Incoming interns participate in an introductory “boot camp” hosted by the outgoing interns and designed to orient them to their new position. This internship position ends in June of 2026 after training the incoming 2027.

    Qualifications

    ● College graduates participating in a gap year

    ● Intending on matriculation to medical school for the Fall of 2026

    ● Must have completed the MCAT by March of 2025

    Responsibilities

    ● Taking patient histories, presenting to physicians, and scribing notes via electronic health record system

    ● Assisting throughout the clinic day and answering phones

    ● Administrative duties that impact patient care:

    ○ Scheduling Dr. Powell’s orthopedic surgeries

    ○ Setting up for procedures in clinic

    ○ Completing insurance and medication prior authorizations

    ○ Sending orders for medication, medical imaging, physical therapy, etc. to intended recipient

    ○ Ordering office/medical supplies

    ○ Completing medical record requests

    ○ Completing disability requests

    ○ Managing workers compensation cases

    Because of the high expectations and more involved responsibilities placed upon interns in a smaller private practice, interested applicants must demonstrate diligence, responsibility, leadership, ability to collaborate with others, and experience in healthcare or other interpersonal settings.

    Clear Dermatology Student Internship Program

    Clear Dermatology is looking to hire recent college graduates and aspiring doctors for our year-long, paid internship program. This internship is designed to provide practical experience to college graduates bound for medical school. The interns work directly with the physicians and will learn how to take medical histories, document patient present illnesses, and to synthesize information into possible diagnoses. The interns will have the opportunity to assist in procedures including biopsies, excisions, cosmetic procedures and Mohs micrographic surgery. 

    The internship program begins each year around June/July and lasts roughly thirteen months. Qualifications are that students must have recently graduated from a university, taken the MCAT, and plan on attending medical school. Interest in Dermatology is preferred, but not required as this experience will help all aspiring doctors. 

    Clear Dermatology is a large general and surgical dermatology practice with locations in the Los Angeles area (Torrance and Manhattan Beach) where you will be working with dermatology providers assisting them with scribing electronic medical records, history and physical exam documentation, pre and post visit patient education, and innumerable vital tasks to ensure excellent patient care.  As dermatology and skin cancer providers, we operate a high volume practice with ample opportunities to learn general medicine, surgical technique, anatomy, and appreciate the bench to bedside approach of medicine integrating laboratory analyses and microscopic diagnoses to treat patients.  Allergy and immunology play a large role in dermatology where you learn about patch testing to diagnose the specific allergens causing allergic contact dermatitis.  Skin cancer, mainly basal cell, squamous cell, and melanoma, but a plethora of other tumors plague our patients as early as teens up through adulthood.  Aesthetically, you also learn about various laser and light technologies, chemical peels, Botox and injectables enhancing the aesthetically minded patient.  From kids to the elderly, we are a very well-rounded practice.
