Biography

My focus is American politics, and my research falls largely in the areas of public opinion, political psychology, and political behavior. I am interested in identity’s impact on public opinion and attitudes, and much of my research is motivated by questions of how voters’ various group identities influence their perceptions of politics. My dissertation focuses on affective partisan polarization and the role that racial and ethnic identity plays in how voters feel about their partisanship and other partisans, especially among white and Latino voters. Outside of my dissertation work, I also study how race and partisanship influence voter responses to political institutions such as how race influences turnout under different primary election systems.
