USC Dornsife faculty featured at nation’s largest book festival
Lovers of books, authors and all things literary, your day is coming. The annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books returns to springtime this year.
Due to the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, organizers reimagined the festival last year, converting it from an in-person event in April to an online event in the fall. And while this year’s festival will also be online due to ongoing safety concerns related to COVID-19, the calendar remains packed with fascinating panel discussions, conversations with authors, poetry and book readings, and more.
The Los Angeles Times Book Prizes precede the festival on April 16, with South to Freedom: Runaway Slaves to Mexico and the Road to the Civil War (Basic Books, 2020) by Alice Baumgartner, postdoctoral scholar and teaching fellow at the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, among the finalists in the history category.
The book festival launches April 17 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time with an event featuring USC President Carol L. Folt, the USC Trojan Marching Band and appearances by lauded L.A. Times writers. It continues through April 23.
