Dr. Nils de Mol van Otterloo is very excited to join the USC Center for Music, Brain and Society. He received a Master of Social Work at USC in 2015 and a Doctorate of Social Work at USC in 2019. His capstone project was on Musical Reminiscence Therapy for Dementia Care in Low and Middle Income Communities. Nils was a Fulbright Scholar from 2016 to 2017 in Kerala, India, where he did research on Musical Reminiscence Therapy for Dementia Care with the Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Society of India. Upon his return from India Nils served as Coordinator for the Arts and Social Work Incubator at the USC Susan Dworak-Peck School of Social Work. Beyond music and dementia care, Nils is interested in research related to music and neuroplasticity for Traumatic Brain Injuries. Following his doctoral studies, Nils received a second Fulbright award to India but he wasn’t able to pursue this because of the COVID pandemic. Instead, Nils has been exploring his favorite hobby: designing and building music instruments.
